More Science Rap

I'm not the only science rapper out there making these videos, you know. A couple weeks after the Large Hadron Rap went online, Jonathan Chase's "Astrobiology" hit YouTube. Before us, we have parodies from Bill Nye (eg. "Water Cycle Jump") and some of MC Hawking's songs (like "Entropy").

There's clearly something going on with Vanilla Ice and science: "Cruise Cruise Baby" by oceanographer Chris Manning – trying to bouy his team's spirits on a rough trip, and "ISS Baby" by 2008 summer interns at NASA's Johnson Space Center.

Tom McFadden, tomcfad on YouTube, made a series on human biology to help get his students at Stanford as psyched about science as he is ("Hi Meiosis" is my fave, but then, my first crack at a science rap was a parody of "Lose Yourself". "3.5* 'til infinity" is a close second).

Steve "Funky49" Rush got into science grooves making an album for his local science museum in Tampa, FL - Rapbassador EP, which he's following up with a track for Fermilab.

Making your own is not that hard, with free audio software like Audacity, and Windows Movie Maker is included on PCs. And if you have to be your own DJ, you can get free beat loops.

If I'm missing fellow rappers who have fun with their science (or better yet, try to make the concepts more accessible through rhythm and rhyme), please inform me: kate.mcalpineatgmail.com.

Or, send me a link if you make a video of your own!
